TESOL Minor Sophomore/Junior Advising

Sophomore / Junior Year:

Declare your TESOL minor.

On MyMadison there are steps describing the declaration of a minor process.

  • Contact and schedule a time to meet with a TESOL advisor (either Dr. Katya Koubek [koubekex@jmu.edu] or Dr. Stephanie Wasta [wastasa@jmu.edu]) in order to determine if this is an appropriate minor for you and to create an appropriate schedule.

  • Finish the declaration process electronically on MyMadison.

COURSE TO TAKE PROMPTLY:

  • TESL 300 - First and Second Language Acquisition (formerly TESL 426)
    • TESL 300 (426) is a prerequisite for TESL 428 and TESL 470

You must take this early in your program in order to progress through the program in a timely manner.

Other TESOL courses to complete over these 2 years:

  • EDUC 310 (Fall or Spring semester)
  • LED 430 Spring semester of your Sophomore or Junior year.
    • LED 430 is a prerequisite for LED 435, if you choose LED 435 as your TESOL elective.  LED 435 is only offered Fall semester

Elementary Education minors will take:

  • LED 366 instead of LED 430 and
  • ELED 310 instead of EDUC 310 following the Elementary Education course sequence.
