TESOL Pre-K-12 Minor Freshmen Advising

FRESHMEN WHO DECLARED AT ORIENTATION -


CONTACT:  Dr. Dara Hall, Admissions and Licensure Coordinator [halldm@jmu.edu] and the TEACH Ambassadors in the Education Support Center (ESC) [x82996] through your freshman year.



The ESC main goal is to help you become fully accepted into teacher education.


  • Once you have declared your minor the ESC will walk you through your next steps in applying to Teacher Education.
  • All of these steps must be completed by the beginning of the Sophomore Year.
  • Take the VCLA exam this year.  It must be completed to apply for Teacher Education.

Click on the Admission and Licensure tab


Complete other exams for admission to Teacher Education, as needed. Your SAT and ACT scores may be sufficient. If not, you may need to complete components of the PRAXIS Core exam. See the Teacher Education Application information on the ESC website.

FRESHMEN WHO WISH TO DECLARE THE TESOL LICENSURE MINOR -


OPTION 1:  contact Dara Hall [halldm@jmu.edu] after declaring the minor on myMadison.  The ESC will walk you through the process for admission into Teacher Education, which is required for education licensure programs; or

OPTION 2:  contact Dr. Katya Koubek, Program Coordinator [koubekex@jmu.edu], after declaring the minor on myMadison.  At this meeting a program plan will be created and the application into teacher education will be completed and submitted.
